Excerpt
Audio excerpt

Each night at precisely 4:33 am, while sixteen-year-old London Lane is asleep, her memory of that day is erased. In the morning, all she can "remember" are events from her future. London is used to relying on reminder notes and a trusted friend to get through the day, but things get complicated when a new boy at school enters the picture. Luke Henry is not someone you'd easily forget, yet try as she might, London can't find him in her memories of things to come.

When London starts experiencing disturbing flashbacks, or flash-forwards, as the case may be, she realizes it's time to learn about the past she keeps forgetting-before it destroys her future.

London Lane is a 16 year old girl that every night at 4:33 am, her memory is erased or reset and cannot remember anything from the past. She depends on notes that she writes every night. She cannot remember the past but can remember the future. Her secret is only known by her mom and her best friend Jamie, both help her during the day, London has a sort of normal life, she goes to school, attend parties.
Luke is the super-hot new guy in school who is interested in London, but as London cannot see him in her future, she meets him for the first time every day, which can be problematic.
London suddenly begins to have memories of a funeral in which she can only recognize her mom, so she decides to find out more about her condition, her past and to see if there is any way to change her future.
The book is written from London the point of view, which is weird because she does not remember the day before at all and we do. I was confused in the beginning of the book (first 50-60 pages) because I knew that her memory is erased every day (like the movies 50 First Dates and memento), but I did not knew that her memories were from the future which was confusing at first. For example, she knows her mom and Jaime, not from the past but because they are in her future (¿?) yeah, strange. My favorite character is Luke he´s super understanding, thoughtful, has good feelings, in short the perfect guy, just what London needs, but how can she date a guy that she can´t remember and without him knowing her secret. Yes, a complicated relationship.
I really enjoy Forgotten.
Thanks to Latin Tour Books for the book tour.

Waiting on Wednesday (17)

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

The book I´m waiting this week is:

Title: City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments #5)
Author: Cassandra Clare
Release date: May 8, 2012
Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry
Read Prologue
Add it on Goodreads

The demon Lilith has been destroyed and Jace has been freed from her captivity. But when the Shadowhunters arrive to rescue him, they find only blood and broken glass. Not only is the boy Clary loves missing–but so is the boy she hates, Sebastian, the son of her father Valentine: a son determined to succeed where their father failed, and bring the Shadowhunters to their knees.

No magic the Clave can summon can locate either boy, but Jace cannot stay away—not from Clary. When they meet again Clary discovers the horror Lilith’s dying magic has wrought—Jace is no longer the boy she loved. He and Sebastian are now bound to each other, and Jace has become what he most feared: a true servant of Valentine’s evil. The Clave is determined to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. Will the Shadowhunters hesitate to kill one of their own?

Only a small band of Clary and Jace’s friends and family believe that Jace can still be saved — and that the fate of the Shadowhunters’ future may hinge on that salvation. They must defy the Clave and strike out on their own. Alec, Magnus, Simon and Isabelle must work together to save Jace: bargaining with the sinister Faerie Queen, contemplating deals with demons, and turning at last to the Iron Sisters, the reclusive and merciless weapons makers for the Shadowhunters, who tell them that no weapon on this earth can sever the bond between Sebastian and Jace. Their only chance of cutting Jace free is to challenge Heaven and Hell — a risk that could claim any, or all, of their lives.

And they must do it without Clary. For Clary has gone into the heart of darkness, to play a dangerous game utterly alone. The price of losing the game is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she even still trust him? Or is he truly lost? What price is too high to pay, even for love?

Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series.
The City of Lost Souls chapter reveal starts TODAY! at Cassandra Clare tumblr.

Bloodrose by Andrea Cremer

Title: Bloodrose (Nightshade #3)
Author: Andrea Cremer
Publisher: Philomel
Release date: January 3, 2012.
Rating: 3.5/5

Read first 2 chapters here

Calla has always welcomed war.

But now that the final battle is upon her, there's more at stake than fighting. There's saving Ren, even if it incurs Shay's wrath. There's keeping Ansel safe, even if he's been branded a traitor. There's proving herself as the pack's alpha, facing unnamable horrors, and ridding the world of the Keepers' magic once and for all. And then there's deciding what to do when the war ends. If Calla makes it out alive, that is.
In Bloodrose searchers and keepers are at war and Calla is in the middle, along with Ren, Shay and others embark on seeking the parts of the sword (I cannot remember his name of the sword). I must admit that the first part of the book is full of action scenes as the group goes not stop, and visit different parts of the world in search of parts of the sword, and they encounter different obstacles. Connor is hilarious and Calla (shakes head) is supposed to be the alpha but the whole time she´s undecided, she loves both Shay and Ren and she decides in Chapter 2 to be fair to both and not to decide until the end of the war that is if they survive, but she really made me want to shake her a few times.

I have mixed feelings Bloodrose, the book was going so well for the first 85% of the story, but at with certain event, the book no longer worked for me, in fact I leave the book at that point and I read another book to sheer me up and let my anger pass (I read Friday Night Bites by Chloe Neill) and then return to finish my reading. But the book didn´t worked for me, I did not like the end at all.

As a series I really like Nightshade, but Bloodrose didn´t convince me. But this is a book that you love or not and I'm didn´t love it.

The book I´m waiting this week is:

Title: The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden #1)
Author: Julie Kagawa
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Release date: April 24, 2012.
Add it on Goodreads

IN A FUTURE WORLD, VAMPIRES REIGN. HUMANS ARE BLOOD CATTLE. AND ONE GIRL WILL SEARCH FOR THE KEY TO SAVE HUMANITY.

Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.

Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die or become one of the monsters.

Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.

Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.

But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for.

Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?

Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.

Ismae's most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?
The story takes place in Brittany 1845. Ismae Rienne is 14 years old at the beginning of the story, the daughter of a farmer and an unwanted child because of her true lineage, she´s actually daughter of the god of death. Her “father” sells her into an arranged marriage with the pig farmer and she is rescued by a priest and that sent her to a convent that serves to St. Mortain the patron saint of death. There she is given a choice to serve St. Mortain and be trained as an assassin or sent away to get married to a gentle man. She decides to stay at the convent and learn the arts of death.
Ismae as a daughter of St. Mortain has powerful gifts that help to do her work.
Three years have passed and Ismae now 17 years old is sent to her most important assignment, to infiltrate into the high court with the help of a reluctant Gavriel Duval. Her mission is to protect Anne a 13 years old girl that upon her father's death, she became sovereign Duchess of Brittany and was plunged into fresh crisis with France.
Grave Mercy is a historical fiction novel that has intrigue, romance, fantasy and mystery.Grave Mercy is beautiful written and is told from Ismae´s point of view. Ismae is strong, intelligent, smart, a mature girl, a trained assassin and she mistrusts everyone around her. Duval is a strong young man, intelligent and gentle (at least with Ismae), I really liked Duval a lot and I can´t say more about it because I don´t want give away spoilers.

This is an amazing book, once I started reading I couldn't put it down, it keeps me on my toes, guessing all the time and having suspicions of everyone.

I love this book so much! I highly recommend it!

Thanks to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and  Netgalley for the opportunity to read Grave Mercy.

Quotes:

“If you choose to stay, you will be trained in His arts. You will learn more ways to kill a man than you imagined possible. We will train you in stealth and cunning and all manner of skills that will ensure no man is ever again a threat to you.”

“there is a hint of concern. It is this kindness of his that unsettles me most. I can dodge a blow or block a knife. I´m impervious to poison and know a dozen ways to scape a chokehold or garrote wire. But kindness? I do not know how to defend against that.”
“Surely He does not give us hearts so we may spend our lives ignoring them.”

My Soul to Save (goodreads description)
When Kaylee Cavanaugh screams, someone dies.

So when teen pop star Eden croaks onstage and Kaylee doesn’t wail, she knows something is dead wrong. She can’t cry for someone who has no soul.

The last thing Kaylee needs right now is to be skipping school, breaking her dad’s ironclad curfew and putting her too-hot-to-be-real boyfriend’s loyalty to the test. But starry-eyed teens are trading their souls: a flickering lifetime of fame and fortune in exchange for eternity in the Netherworld—a consequence they can’t possibly understand.

Kaylee can’t let that happen, even if trying to save their souls means putting her own at risk...

I´m participating in the Soul Screamers Reading Challenge and this month read My Soul to Save second book in the series.

My Soul to Save takes place 6 weeks after my Soul to Take, Kaylee is dating Nash, and she´s taking classes with Harmony, Nash´s mom about how to control her screams and learning other things that bean sidhe can do.
In this book Kaylee is trying to save a teen singer that has sold her soul,  Kaylee and Nash try to help her at Tod request.  The need to embark in a dangerous journey into the netherworld to recuperate her soul.
I like it, I just I didn´t enjoy My Soul to Save as much as I did with My Soul to Take. There were times when Kaylee annoys me a little, especially with her insecurities about Nash. One moment she´s secure of Nash feelings about her and the next she´s thinking that he´s not taking her serious.
Tod has his funny moments  and I get to know him a little more but the is a moment when I dislike him (when they in the netherworld at the end).
