Daughter of Smoke and Bones is an amazing story, well written and one of my favorites this year.
Is a dark tale in which we meet Karou a 17 year old art student, an orphan, she lives in Prague alone in her tiny flat. She´s recovering from her breakup with her exboyfriend whom is a stalker that doesn´t get that is over.
She seems to have a normal life, but she has a secret that not even her best friend Zuzana knows, she was raised by four singular creatures that might be considerate monster or demons by the regular human, but for Karou they´re her family. She travels around the world to gather or run errands for Brimstone that consist in gather teeth of any kind.
On one of those trips she meets Akiva a stranger that tries to kill her. Akiva is drop dead beautiful, strong and terrifying. He is a soldier; he comes from a world that is at war with the "demons".
Brimstone is one of my favorites characters in this story, he´s the father figure for Karou, he´s a wise creature and very enigmatic. He has a very peculiar shop where he trade or buy teeth for wishes.
I love Daughter of Smoke and Bone is a great adventure, dark and astonishing. What I most enjoy is that is not a predictable story and has a great cliffhanger ending.
