Isadora’s family is seriously screwed up.
Of course, as the human daughter of Egyptian gods, that pretty much comes with the territory. She’s also stuck with parents who barely notice her, and a house full of relatives who can’t be bothered to remember her name. After all, they are going to be around forever—and she’s a mere mortal.
Isadora’s sick of living a life where she’s only worthy of a passing glance, and when she has the chance to move to San Diego with her brother, she jumps on it. But Isadora’s quickly finding that a “normal” life comes with plenty of its own epic complications—and that there’s no such thing as a clean break when it comes to family. Much as she wants to leave her past behind, she can’t shake the ominous dreams that foretell destruction for her entire family. When it turns out there may be truth in her nightmares, Isadora has to decide whether she can abandon her divine heritage after all.
This book tells the story of Isadora, the mortal daughter of the gods Isis and Osiris, which lead a "normal" life with them until she learns that she will not become a goddess as her parents and older brother Horus, but a human who will follow the normal cycle of life and someday will die, when Isadora learns this fact she cries, make tantrums, get mad with her parents, etc.; therefore she needs to runaway from her parents and she manages to convinces them to send her on vacation to San Diego and there she´ll live with her favorite brother (who is older than her by 20 years), there she makes friends and begins to live a more or less normal, because until then she had lived with her parents, surrounded by Egyptian gods.
The story is told from the point of view of Isadora, which is not one of the best female main characters, since she´s self-centered, arrogant, whiny and somewhat annoying, so I did not liked her, what saves the story (at least for me) are the secondary characters: Ry is the romantic interest, Tyler is Isadora´s friend and Tyle´s boyfriend Scott, only for them this book is worth reading.
Overall it is a fun, light read, it has a good pacing and is entertaining. But the truth is that I expected more of the story, because I didn´t feel that the book was focused on Egyptian mythology, but I felt it more like a contemporary novel with the mythology as a background, as Isadora has minor powers, despite being the daughter of gods.
