WOW (85): Panic

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

The book I´m waiting this week is

Panic by Lauren Oliver
Release date:  March 4th 2014
Panic began as so many things do in Carp, a dead-end town of 12,000 people in the middle of nowhere: because it was summer, and there was nothing else to do.

Heather never thought she would compete in Panic, a legendary game played by graduating seniors, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher. She’d never thought of herself as fearless, the kind of person who would fight to stand out. But when she finds something, and someone, to fight for, she will discover that she is braver than she ever thought.

Dodge has never been afraid of Panic. His secret will fuel him, and get him all the way through the game, he’s sure of it. But what he doesn't know is that he’s not the only one with a secret. Everyone has something to play for.

For Heather and Dodge, the game will bring new alliances, unexpected revelations, and the possibility of first love for each of them—and the knowledge that sometimes the very things we fear are those we need the most.
Why I'm Waiting?
Because I loved her Delirium series and I can´t wait to read another book written by her.

You can read my review of The Gathering - hereThe Calling - here
Things are getting desperate for Maya and her friends. Hunted by the powerful St. Clouds and now a rival Cabal as well, they're quickly running out of places to hide. And with the whole world thinking they died in a helicopter crash, it's not like they can just go to the authorities for help.

All they have is the name and number of someone who might be able to give them a few answers. Answers to why they're so valuable, and why their supernatural powers are getting more and more out of control.

But Maya is unprepared for the truths that await her. And now, like it or not, she'll have to face down some demons from her past if she ever hopes to move on with her life. Because Maya can't keep running forever.

Old secrets are revealed and unexpected characters make a surprising return in this stunning conclusion to Kelley Armstrong's New York Times bestselling Darkness Rising trilogy.

I love the world where it takes place this trilogy, and it´s the same world as Darkest Powers but also is the same world as her adult series Women of the Otherworld, so I felt this book like a farewell to the series I've been following for some time and that I loved so much.

Maya, Daniel, Rafael and Corey have been fugitives since they discovered that they were subjects of an experiment called Phoenix and that they were of a type of supernatural that supposed to be extinct, two rival groups of sorcerers have been on their heels with intention to capture them. In this book, Maya and her friends try to find a way to escape once and for all and be free of  both groups of cabals (groups of sorcerers), and reunited with their families and live a more or less normal life. And to achieved this they need the help of another group of teenagers, who are subjects of the Genesis experiment. This is the part that I was dying to read, the return of the characters of the Darkest Powers trilogy, I couldn't wait to see Chloe, Derek, Simon and Tori.

Since I found out that Chloe and Derek from the Darkest Powers trilogy would be in this book, I put it as a priority to read books, yet I had a bit of fear because my expectations were high. And although the ending is not what I expected or ideal (in my opinion), I can live with it and it is the closest thing to a good ending for the main characters. Another thing that I really liked, was that also make a cameo or make a mention of the characters from the adult series (yay!). And what I love the most was the epilogue because it takes place eight months after the ending and I could see how they are adjusting to their new life and I also like that Maya end up with the guy I expected. This is a book for fans of paranormal and Kelley Armstrong novels.

On to the reveal!

Blurb
Before, Brynn had a group of best friends, a loving boyfriend, a growing talent for pottery. She had a life. And after…she had none.

When Brynn lost the boyfriend who never loved her, the friends who feel she betrayed their trust, and the new life just beginning to grow inside her, she believes her future is as empty as her body. But then Christian, the boy next door, starts coming around. Playing his guitar and pushing her to create art once more. She meets some new friends at the local community center, plus even gets her dad to look her in the eye again…sort of.

But can Brynn open up her heart to truly find her life’s own beauty, when living for the after means letting go of the before?

Excerpt

Christian looks at me. I wait for a smart-aleck reply or a smile but get neither. Just his blue eyes sucking me in like a whirlpool. “That’s what I thought you would say. So you just have to keep fighting for it. Keep fighting to get it back.”

My eyes won’t leave his and his won’t leave mine. And he’s cute. God, he’s so cute, I just want to focus on his cuteness. I want that to be all that matters. When his hand comes up and cups my cheek, I gasp. He brushes his thumb under my eye and licks his lips and I’m frozen and on fire and close to having a heart attack and anxious all at the same time.

Slowly, he leans forward and I know he’s giving me time. And my heart is leaping and I want to feel his lips. This is Christian. The boy who asked me to dance. The boy I ran to my mom about and told her that I loved. And now he’s my friend. The first person who has made me feel normal since everything happened.

But I’m so scared. Scared of messing it up. Scared he’ll decide he doesn’t want me. Scared of losing him. Of getting hurt.

He gets closer and I smell his sweet, sugary scent. See his mouth and wet lips and that hair I want to touch.

See the one person besides Emery who I have. The one person I can’t lose. “Wait,” I say and Christian stops moving. He’s still close. So very, very close that his lips are only an inch away from mine. “I’m scared,” I admit.

    “I won’t hurt you.”

And I swear a part of me believes him. Maybe all of me. But how do I know if that’s the right decision or not?

He runs his hand down my face and touches my hair. Love that he’s not nervous to do it the way I am with him and I watch his fingers, brown against my red hair.

“Go out with me, Bryntastic. Let’s go do something this weekend. Don’t keep running. I won’t even try to kiss you again unless you tell me to. Or I’ll wait for you to do it. Just let go. Live.”

His words are what I want. I want them so badly and they sound so perfect that it’s hard not to just scream, “Yes!” right now. “Why?” I ask him. “Why are you so nice to me?”

I love his strength. Love that he doesn’t even hesitates before saying, “Because you were my first crush. Because I used to watch you conqueror anything and used to listen to you laugh with your friends. You were happy and I loved your smile. Because I had to work up the courage to ask you to dance and I did, and then I left and the one thing I missed was that smile. I watched my sister lose hers and watched my family fall apart and when I came back here? I wanted to see your smile again. Because you’re beautiful when you smile and you’ve lost it now. I want you to conquer this because what the hell is the purpose in it all if the first girl I ever danced with loses her smile?”

I don’t realize I’m crying until Christian wipes my tears. “You think I’m beautiful?”

One of her loves has always been writing about teens. There’s something so fresh and fun about the age that she loves exploring. Her husband says it’s because she doesn’t want to grow up. She doesn’t think that’s such a bad thing and luckily for her, he doesn’t either.

Nyrae gravitates toward character-driven stories. She loves going on emotional journeys with characters whether it be reading or writing. And yes, she’s a total romantic at heart and proud.

Review: The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson

Once a century, one person is chosen for greatness.
Elisa is the chosen one.

But she is also the younger of two princesses, the one who has never done anything remarkable. She can't see how she ever will.

Now, on her sixteenth birthday, she has become the secret wife of a handsome and worldly king—a king whose country is in turmoil. A king who needs the chosen one, not a failure of a princess.

And he's not the only one who seeks her. Savage enemies seething with dark magic are hunting her. A daring, determined revolutionary thinks she could be his people's savior. And he looks at her in a way that no man has ever looked at her before. Soon it is not just her life, but her very heart that is at stake.

Elisa could be everything to those who need her most. If the prophecy is fulfilled. If she finds the power deep within herself. If she doesn’t die young.

Most of the chosen do.

I haven´t read a lot of epic fantasy books, I usually read more contemporary, paranormal and dystopian novels, so I don´t have much experience with this genre, so the stories I've read so far they seem original to me.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns has been on my shelf for more than two years, but it didn´t appeal to me until I saw that the last book of the trilogy was going to be published next month and I've seen some very good reviews with good rating ..... that´s why I decided to read it and I loved it!

The Girl of Fire and Thorns tells the story of princess Elisa, a girl who is the bearer of the godstone, this is an honor that only happens every 100 years and the bearer has to perform a service of heroism. And the day she turns 16 years old, she marries King Alejandro de la Vega, a widower who is very handsome. But what Elisa does not know is that being a bearer of the Godstone will take her on a journey where there will be danger, she will find love, make friends and at the end she will no longer be the same.

The story is told from the point of view of Elisa, a girl who at the beginning of the story is very insecure and has overweight, but as the story progresses she starts to be a little more sure of herself and begins taking decisions that affect her life and the lives of those who seek her help.

Overall, it´s a very good epic fantasy book and I recommend it for those who like this genre; it has some romance, action and intrigue. And what I liked the most was how Elisa changes over the course of her journey and at the end she´s a great heroine, independent, strong and determined.

Infinite possibilities….
Infinite passion…..
Infinite danger….

His touch spirals through me, warm and sweet, wicked and hot. I shouldn’t trust him. I shouldn’t tell him my secrets. But how do I not when he is the reason I breathe? He is what I need.

At the young age of eighteen, tragedy and a dark secret force Lara to flee all she has known and loves to start a new life. Now years later, with a new identity as Amy, she’s finally dared to believe she is forgotten–even if she cannot forget. But just when she lets down her guard, the ghosts of her past are quick to punish her, forcing her back on the run.

On a plane, struggling to face the devastation of losing everything again and starting over, Amy meets Liam Stone, a darkly entrancing recluse billionaire, who is also a brilliant, and famous, prodigy architect. A man who knows what he wants and goes after it. And what he wants is Amy. Refusing to take “no” as an answer, he sweeps her into a passionate affair, pushing her to her erotic limits. He wants to possess her. He makes her want to be possessed. Liam demands everything from her, accepting nothing less. But what if she is too devastated by tragedy to know when he wants more than she should give? And what if there is more to Liam than meets the eyes?

Escaping Reality captivated me from the first chapter, is a story that grabs you and does not let go until the end, this is a New Adult novel and so far I hadn´t read a book of this genre with such intrigue, suspense, mystery and that made me doubt of everyone. I have several theories about who is bad guy and who is not but all my doubts will be resolved to the next and final book of this Duology.

The story is told entirely from the point of view of Amy, a girl of 24 years-old who has been running the last 6 years, because someone is after her .. who is after her and why? that is something I hope to know in the next book! Amy has a mysterious handler that monitors her and try to keep her safe and tells her when she must move to another city and where to go and he provides her with the basics to start a new life.

Running from the last city she meets Liam Stone a billionaire to whom she is attracted and he causes her to lose all her reservations about letting anyone near her. And besides Liam is very attractive, very persistent, very dominant guy and he doesn´t take a no for an answer and ends up breaking some of the barriers that Amy erected around her, so the romance is very interesting and hot.

But what I liked most was the intrigue, since in each chapter I doubted of someone different and that ending left me desperately wanting the next book and I hope that Infinite Possibilities will answer all the questions I have about several characters. I highly recommended this book for those who like New Adult Novels.

Book trailer: Frigid by J. Lynn

Frigid (Frigid #1) by J. Lynn
For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn’t anything new. They’d been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts the ‘man’ in man-whore. He’s never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn’t want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.

Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she’s perfect and she’s everything. But the feelings he has for her, he’s always hidden away or focused on any other female. After all, Kyler will always be the poor boy from the wrong side of tracks, and Syd will always be the one girl he can never have.

But when they’re stranded together at a posh ski resort due to a massive Nor’easter, there’s nothing stopping their red-hot feelings for each other from coming to the surface. Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.
