Read excerpt here.

Pearl is a sixteen-year-old vampire... fond of blood, allergic to sunlight, and mostly evil... until the night a sparkly unicorn stabs her through the heart with his horn. Oops.

Her family thinks she was attacked by a vampire hunter (because, obviously, unicorns don't exist), and they're shocked she survived. They're even more shocked when Pearl discovers she can now withstand the sun. But they quickly find a way to make use of her new talent. The Vampire King of New England has chosen Pearl's family to host his feast. If Pearl enrolls in high school, she can make lots of human friends and lure them to the King's feast -- as the entrees.

The only problem? Pearl's starting to feel the twinges of a conscience. How can she serve up her new friends—especially the cute guy who makes her fangs ache—to be slaughtered? Then again, she's definitely dead if she lets down her family. What's a sunlight-loving vamp to do?

Pearl is a vampire who falls into all the stereotypes, sensitive to daylight, she can´t be reflected in the mirrors, their favorite food is human blood, is evil, has no conscience and only sees humans as prey. The exception to the stereotypes would be that she was born, not made. As Pearl says she is a vampire's not the sparky variety.

One day after drinking the blood of her favorite snack, Pearl meets a Unicorn which pierced her heart with its horn and this is the last thing she knows until she awakes at home. And from that moment Pearl begins to experience changes that would be impossible for a vampire. Something that made me very peculiar is that the family does not believe her when she says she was attacked by a unicorn, because they don´t exist….mmm, strange.

Pearl is sarcastic and very funny, strong, smart and has never interacted with a human apart of the hunt; she has some reactions with the humans that make reading this book very enjoyable.

I recommend this book is a funny, fresh and stress free. I love it!

I also want to mention that I like the cover, is very pretty and very red and I like the effect of the drop of blood sliding down of the bottle to reach the letter "R" and as if it were gliding over the letter to cover it.

Quotes:
If the king were pleased enough, maybe he´d let her have a pet human."Do you want to tell me what happend?" Evan asked. On the other hand, a pet human would probably require far too much maintenance. Nosy critters, weren´t they? "No" she said.
“I hope I haven't hurt your feelings," he said.
"I don't have feelings, at least not the inconvenient ones.”

  2. I really liked this book. My favorite part was the transformation that Pearl went through after being stabbed by a unicorn. And what a creative way to use unicorns.
    Thanks for the review!
