Mila 2.0 is the first book in an electrifying sci-fi thriller series about a teenage girl who discovers that she is an experiment in artificial intelligence.

Mila was never meant to learn the truth about her identity. She was a girl living with her mother in a small Minnesota town. She was supposed to forget her past —that she was built in a secret computer science lab and programmed to do things real people would never do.

Now she has no choice but to run—from the dangerous operatives who want her terminated because she knows too much and from a mysterious group that wants to capture her alive and unlock her advanced technology. However, what Mila’s becoming is beyond anyone’s imagination, including her own, and it just might save her life.

Mila 2.0 is Debra Driza’s bold debut and the first book in a Bourne Identity-style trilogy that combines heart-pounding action with a riveting exploration of what it really means to be human. Fans of I Am Number Four will love Mila for who she is and what she longs to be—and a cliffhanger ending will leave them breathlessly awaiting the sequel.

Mila is a sixteen year old girl, she´s depressed because a month ago her father died in a fire, and because of this she and her mother moved to a small town. And also because of that fire she lost her memory and does not remember much of her past and her relationship with her mother is different, she became an overprotective mother and  indifferent to her. Mila attends to high school, there she has friends and meets Hunter, a boy that shows interest in her, shortly after she has an accident and discovers that there is something different about her .... she is not human, she´s an android.

When she confronts her mother, she tells her the truth about her origins and that she stoled her from the laboratory and that it is important to not be captured. but what her "mother" most feared has happened, They´re discovered and must flee, because Mila must not be captured and returned to her creators.

My favorite supporting characters is Lucas Webb (I will not say where she meets him because I don´t want to spoil it), he's a very smart guy, but you never know  on whose side is he, if he's a good guy or a bad guy

MILA has an interesting plot that promises much, but I did not feel that it met my expectations ... I felt something was missing, but what saved it for me was the many action scenes (the action scenes was what I liked most of the book), the beginning is a bit slow for me taste and the story focuses more on Mila, her origins, as she discovers what she can do, her relationship with her "mother" and her relation to her creators.

MILA 2.0 has been optioned for a TV show by ABC (read article here).

Thank you very much Katherine Tegen Books and Edelweiss for providing this egalley for review.

  1. I've heard a lot that this book isn't meeting expectations from readers. Too bad, because the premise looks so promising.

  3. I've seen reviews on both sides of the fence about this - either people love it or they were really underwhelmed - so I'm pretty curious to read it for myself. I also hadn't heard that it was optioned for TV... wow!

  7. The one thing that I keep hearing over and over again, and that is that Mila just misses a mark somewhere. It isn't bad, but it is just missing that something that would make it great. But I do love a good action scene, so I think if I had the chance to read it without buying it I would give it a shot!

  11. Looks amazing but still have my doubts. The cover is great and so is the concept but I think it's hit or miss sort of book.
