Vane Weston is haunted. By the searing pull of his bond to Audra. By the lies he’s told to cover for her disappearance. By the treacherous winds that slip into his mind, trying to trap him in his worst nightmares. And as his enemies grow stronger, Vane doesn’t know how much longer he can last on his own.

But Audra’s still running. From her past. From the Gales. Even from Vane, who she doesn’t believe she deserves. And the farther she flees, the more danger she finds. She possesses the secret power her enemy craves, and protecting it might be more than she can handle—especially when she discovers Raiden’s newest weapon.

With the Gale Force weakened by recent attacks, and the power of four collapsing, Vane and Audra are forced to make a choice: keep trusting the failing winds, or turn to the people who’ve betrayed them before. But even if they survive the storms sent to destroy them, will they have anything left to hold on to?

I've been waiting for this sequel for almost a year because I really liked the world building of this book and I think that idea of this novel is original or at least to me because I haven´t read any books about sylphs.

If you´re wondering what´s a sylph? well, according to the world created by Shannon Messenger, the sylphs are human-shaped creatures that are part of the air, they can walk in the wind, talk to the wind and can dominate or control the wind, which can be used as a weapon. And the sylphs are divided into four groups, the North Wind, the South Wind, the East Wind and the West Wind and the one who controls the four winds are believed to be the most powerful of all. That´s why Raiden, the villain in story has sought to seize this knowledge and even though he has failed to do that because he knows the language of only three winds, he has failed to learned the language of the west wind....why?...because the sylphs from the west are creatures that believe in peace above all and they decided to not to share their language for fear that it may be misused, so now after years of war between Raiden and the Gale Force (which are like the police or army of sylphs), there is only one Westerly alive ..... Vane Weston.

Vane is a very interesting character and a very funny one because he doesn´t take himself very seriously, he speaks of himself in third person and because he´s the last Westerly, the Gale Force decided to name him their king, this of course will be official once he defeats Raiden and the war between them is finally over. But there is one small detail about him .... Vane like all the Westerlies before him, is a pacifist, incapable of committing a violent act, the mere thought or perform an act of violence make him sick literally (he usually sort of fainted, has nausea and almost vomit every time he thinks about it ) and so does the thought of sharing his language with other sylphs, because it could fall into the wrong hands and that would be catastrophic. So Vane is a young man who was raised by humans parents and grew up believing to be a human, so now that he find out that he´s a sylph and the king of them and that he must marry the daughter of the former king and Gale Force expected him to be their leader and accept his responsibilities, of course he doesn´t agree with all of them, and his main objection is his engagement to Solana, because he has fallen in love with Audra, his previous guardian.

Meanwhile Audra is trying to come to terms with what her mother do and all the pain that she caused to her and Vane, that in addition to being bonded to Vane, something she didn´t expect to happen. And this book is told from dual POVs, alternating between the main characters.

Let the Storm Break has more action ( I liked the battles) than the previous book and more suspense mainly because at last we get to know the villain of the story, they´re also new characters that appear to be key to the plot, from which I liked the most....Gus or Gusty, he´s Vane´s new guardian and his character has so much potential to be a hero. And it has a cliffhanger ending. But overall, I really enjoyed this book and now I´ve to wait a year to see what will happen with Vane, Audra and Gus, can´t wait to read the next installment.

I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via Edelweiss in exchange of an honest review.

  1. I tried reading Let the Sky Fall, but couldn't get through it. As much as I though it had some originality, it was something that didn't really connect to me as a reader. Vane sounds so…lame? Lol. I hope he got over his reluctance to fight. :)

  2. I am really looking forward to this series, but I think that I am just going to wait for the final book to hit stores before I read it!I have so many series that I am in the middle of, and I am trying REALLY hard to not start any more yet. It won't last long, but I am trying!

  4. This is definitely an unique story. I will have to try reading the first novel and see if it grabs me. It is a definite change to have a pacifist as main character lol

  5. I just got this book this month, but haven't read it! I remember I really enjoyed LTSF even though it's not my favorite. I like Vane and Audra, I like Vandra together. I'm glad there are some new characters (you make me curious with Gus), I'm just afraid with the cliffhanger....
