Laura Wiess captures the visceral emotion of a girl´s journey from innocence to devastating loss and, ultimately, to a strange and unexpected kind of understanding--in this beautiful and painfully honest new novel.

Are there any answers when someone you love makes a tragic choice?

Before and After. That's how Rowan Areno sees her life now. Before: she was a normal sixteen-year-old--a little too sheltered by her police officer father and her mother. After: everything she once believed has been destroyed in the wake of a shattering tragedy, and every day is there to be survived.

If she had known, on that Friday in March when she cut school, that a random stranger's shocking crime would have traumatic consequences, she never would have left campus. If the crime video never went viral, maybe she could have saved her mother, grandmother--and herself--from the endless replay of heartache and grief.

Finding a soul mate in Eli, a witness to the crime who is haunted by losses of his own, Rowan begins to see there is no simple, straightforward path to healing wounded hearts. Can she learn to trust, hope, and believe in happiness again?

Me Since You is one of the saddest books I´ve read so far, but it´s also very touching. And I hope to do some justice to this great story with my opinion of it and hope to be consistent because I´m feeling too many emotions, it was a emotional roller coaster.

Rowan Areno is a typical sixteen year-old teen, that one day decides to ditch school with her best friend and she ends at the wrong place and time and this sets off a chain of events that completely change her life forever.

The plot is very raw and with difficult issues, there is a turning point and from there events keep unleashing one after another, which totally destroyed my heart (I will not say about event or turning point because I don´t wait to spoil it for you), but I had a lump in my throat for most of the book and when I thought everything was getting better there is a twist in the story that throw me of balance and from there I couldn't stop crying....was a sob fest.

Me Since You opened my eyes to many issues, such as severe depression, and how can completely change a person overnight; pain and grief so strong for the loss of a loved one that can completely immobilize you, change your personality and simply not be the same once it happens to you, the how people are so callous or reckless and how everyone can talk about things that we don´t  know or do not understand and it´s just really easy to point fingers and judge someone without really know what is happening to them. And the endless "what if"..... if only Rowan hadn´t skip school that day her life would be different rather than changes that her family is going through, if only Eli had not made that call to 911, maybe his present would be different, and the desire to have a "do-over" button that lets you repeat an event and wish you had done something different. And how that turning point intertwined the lives of Rowan, Rowan 's father and Eli.

There were several secondary characters in the story that made me angry, but the one that I cound´t stand was Rowan´s best friend Nadia, she was too insensitive and self-centered..

I really liked it! and I think that it´s a book that is worth reading and I do not regret having read it even though I suffered through most of it, is a powerful and raw story, although there were moments that let me breathe a little with common daily events and some budding romance, which was really sweet and cute, but the romance takes a back seat and the main plot is the pain, grief and how it affects each person differently.
This is a book that definitely left a good impression on me.

I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

  2. How wonderful when a story touches you so deeply that you can't help crying! Think it might be too intense for me as I cry at the drop of a hat, but really enjoyed your review!

  4. These types of books, where emotions run so high, and the pain makes you cry almost endlessly, are books that I tend to read only at very certain times. I can't just read them all of the time, because that leaves a mark. But on the next day when I feel I could actually read this one and be alright :), I will definitely check this out!

  6. Laura Wiess definitely has something special with this book. It wasn't an easy book to read because of all the emotions and feels, but it's worth it. I thought it was beautifully done, and while I can't say I enjoyed it necessarily, I really appreciated it and thought it was beautiful, but sad. It's one that will stick with the reader for a very long time.
