Since she'd been on the outside, she'd survived an Aether storm, she'd had a knife held to her throat, and she'd seen men murdered.

This was worse.

Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland — known as The Death Shop — are slim. If the cannibals don't get her, the violent energy storms will. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He's wild — a savage — and her only hope of staying alive.

A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile—everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria's help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption. Opposites in nearly every way, Aria and Perry must come together to survive. Their unlikely alliance forges a bond that will determine the fate of all who live under the never sky.

I can not believe that I have not read this book before, especially since it has been on my bookshelf since 2012 and I love the dystopian genre. I must say that the story reminds me a little of Pure and Breathe, mainly because they are the same genre and people live in domes/pods due a catastrophic event and although this book was published before the other two I can not help that while reading this book there are some things that remind me of the others.

Under the Never Sky tells the story of Aria a seventeen year-old girl who has lived all her life in a dome, in a controlled and sterile environment, with a balanced diet and having fun within virtual "realms" to which she can access by a device that attaches to her eye. After an event that changed her life forever, she is expelled from the dome and sent to live in the outside world .... she had heard the stories of the wild people who live outside the dome, they´re cannibals and live constantly under the aether and the constant and powerful aether storms (which was what forced their ancestors to live within domes) that everything outside can kill her because her body can get sick out of the dome.

But once outside she meets Perry, a savage with which she forms an alliance and the two help each other to achieve what they both seek. Perry is a eighteen year-old guy, he lives in the outside world, he´s a hunter, a Seer (has night vision and can see at great distances) and a Scire (he can smell the tempers and emotions of other people) and is one of the few (or only one) that has two heightened senses.

Something I really enjoyed was the dual point of view in third person, Perry´s and Aria´s and I really like how the plot flows.

From the secondary characters my favorite was Perry's best friend Roar; he´s one of the strongest Auds of the tribe,  he can heard at great distances, plus he can hear the thoughts of people with a single touch. When he come on the scene  for a moment I feared that there would be a love triangle, but no! .... because he's in love with with Perry’s sister, Liv.

Overall, this is a very good first book in a trilogy, the story is fast-paced, very entertaining, with plenty of adventure, action, with lovable characters and a little of romance. I really enjoyed this book a lot.

  1. I glad you finally got around to reading this! My copy sat on my shelf for months before I finally remembered to read it. At least now you don't have to wait for any of the books to be published cause they're all out now. I loved Roar's character! Hope you enjoy the rest of the series.

  11. I loved Under the Never Sky :D
Probably because of the way they incorporated the title into the book. I don't know xD But I found myself wondering the same thing: why hadn't I read it sooner? Granted, I never even knew about it until I checked it out from the library a few months ago. But still. I liked the fast-paced story. And Perry and Aria were great :3
I actually never suspected there would be a love triangle, but I see how that could worry you. Thank goodness for Liv (:
I'm only upset because I haven't read the second one yet :/
