Cover Reveal ~ Lux:Beginnings and Lux: Consequences by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Beginnings: Obsidian & Onyx (Lux #1-2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Expected publication: June 3rd 2014

Official Blurb:
Obsidian
There's an alien next door. And with his looming height and eerie green eyes, he's hot...until he opens his mouth. He's infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, he lights me up with a big fat bulls-eye. Turns out he has a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal his abilities and the only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to him until my alien mojo fades. If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Onyx
Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro alien connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems. I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

Waiting On Wednesday (102): Don't Look Back & Split Second

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

The book I´m waiting this week is

Don't Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Release date: April 15th 2014
Samantha is a stranger in her own life. Until the night she disappeared with her best friend, Cassie, everyone said Sam had it all-popularity, wealth, and a dream boyfriend.

Sam has resurfaced, but she has no recollection of who she was or what happened to her that night. As she tries to piece together her life from before, she realizes it's one she no longer wants any part of. The old Sam took "mean girl" to a whole new level, and it's clear she and Cassie were more like best enemies. Sam is pretty sure that losing her memories is like winning the lottery. She's getting a second chance at being a better daughter, sister, and friend, and she's falling hard for Carson Ortiz, a boy who has always looked out for her-even if the old Sam treated him like trash.

But Cassie is still missing, and the facts about what happened to her that night isn't just buried deep inside of Sam's memory-someone else knows, someone who wants to make sure Sam stays quiet. All Sam wants is the truth, and if she can unlock her clouded memories of that fateful night, she can finally move on. But what if not remembering is the only thing keeping Sam alive?

Why I'm Waiting?
Because Jennifer is on my auto-buy list, I love her YA books.

Why I'm Waiting?
I LOVED Pivot Point!, I just love the idea of paranormals living in a secret compound and the differences between the normal world and the paranormal world. And I can´t wait to read more about Trevor.

Some things are worth waiting...

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

And some things are worth fighting for…

I really liked Wait For You and I was waiting desperately to read it, thanks to several the teasers that the author post in her blog and I bought it as soon as it was announced that it was for sale. Wait for you is the first New Adult novel written by Jennifer L. Armentrout under the pen name J. Lynn.

Wait For You is a bit predictable, but otherwise I really like Jennifer's writing, it is simple, funny and with a swoon worthy male protagonist ....In fact, all the guys in this book are super sexy and super hot.

This book is told from Avery´s POV. She´s is a girl that because of something happened to her years ago, she is insecure, she doesn´t trust people and is trying to leave her past behind, so she choose a college away from home and where nobody knows her, hoping for a fresh start .

Cam .... what can I say about Cam ....... if you have read Obsidian written by the same author, you will know what I´m taking about when I say that Cam is like Daemon Black but a light version of him or Daemon after Onyx (or as a friend of Goodreads says: version 3.5). Cam is gorgeous, sexy, he has no shirts because almost all the time he is without one, he´s confident, a little arrogant, but he is also sweet and patient with Avery.

And I like all of the secondary characters, they´re an very interesting group, first we have Jacob and Brit, they´re Avery's friends, these two very funny and very lovable. And we also Ollie and Jase, they´re Cam's friends and my favorite is Ollie, he´s super cute, a little crazy and he gets along very well with Avery.

Wait for You is a New Adult contemporary romance novel, it has its funny moments, its sad moments and a happy ending, but it´s a bit predictable, but a very good story and if have you read any books written by Jennifer L. Armentrout and you liked them, you definitely will like this book and if you have not read a book written by her, you can start with this book if you are over 18 years-old or if you are under age you can begin with the Lux series.

I really liked Wait For You, the first book of the trilogy, and I can not wait to read the next book - Be With Me (it will be Jase and Teresa´s story).

**Contains spoilers if you haven´t read Obsidian**

Read my review of Obsidian HERE.

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?
No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies...

When I read Obsidian, I really liked the story and something about the way this alien race was introduced, it just got me hooked. And while in Obsidian, I wasn´t a total fan of Daemon because of his nature, his big ego and the way he treated poor Katy, but now in Onyx, he finally convinced me, because he lowers his defenses around her and reveals other side of him to Katy, but without ceasing to be sarcastic and have a huge ego. But it's official, now I'm definitely TEAM DAEMON!

But now is Katy with the one I have a problem and this is because thanks to an event occurred in the previous book, she now has a mysterious connection with Daemon which neither of them can explain. And now that Daemon is romantically interested in her, Katy is not so sure of it, because thanks to the damn connection, she isn´t sure if his feelings are true or not, so she doesn´t accept him but Daemon is determined to prove that what he feels for her is real. But she´s so stubborn that she doesn´t relent and she´s making bad decisions and ends up hurting people that she cares about.

Onyx also introduces new characters, Blake the new boy at school, that tries to woo Katy, he plays a major key role in the plot and he is also part of the love triangle, but he has his dark secrets. there are also the DOD agents who come to cause problems and complicate their life.

Another important part of the story is that Katy discovers that someone they thought was dead, is not, and she knows that she has to tell Daemon about it, but she knows that everything is about to change for better or worse.

Onyx is an addictive book that made me want to have all the books in the series (which are five, but only three have been published) to read them one after another, there is a particular part in the book that I thought that the "storm" was over and all would be okay, and the BOOM, a twist that I did not expect (at least not in this book) and I'm very paranoid and sometimes I think that all of them are the "bad guy", but I didn´t see it coming...wow. And besides there is the end of the book that although it was not a mayor cliffhanger, it left me intrigued and I want to know what will happen next. I LOVED Onyx! and I can´t wait to read Opal.

Favorites Quotes

"Kitten," he said again, voice strained. "You don´t get to do that and then stop. That´s not how it works."
“What are we going to do, Kitten?”
My toes curled at the deep octave of his voice. “I don’t know.”
“I have a few ideas.”
I cracked a grin. “I’m sure you do.”
"Wanna hear about them? Although, I’m much better at the show part rather than the tell.”
“Somehow, I believe you.”
“If you didn’t, I could always give you a teaser.” He paused, and I could hear the smile on his voice. “You bookish people love teasers, don’t you?”
"That I´m lucky, because the person I can´t get out of my head, the person who means more to me that I can stand, is still alive. She´s still there. And that´s you."

Mini Review: Shadows by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: Shadows (Lux #0.5)
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Release date: February 21st 2012

Rating: 4/5

Buy onAmazon | B&N | BookDepository

The last thing Dawson Black expected was Bethany Williams. As a Luxen, an alien life form on Earth, human girls are…well, fun. But since the Luxen have to keep their true identities a secret, falling for one would be insane. Dangerous. Tempting. Undeniable.

Bethany can’t deny the immediate connection between her and Dawson. And even though boys aren’t a complication she wants, she can’t stay away from him. Still, whenever they lock eyes, she’s drawn in. Captivated. Lured. Loved.

Dawson is keeping a secret that will change her existence…and put her life in jeopardy. But even he can’t stop risking everything for one human girl. Or from a fate that is as unavoidable as love itself.

Shadows is the prequel to Obsidian (you can read my review here), and when I decided to start reading this series, I was undecided of whether to start with Shadows or Obsidian and although it would have been more logical to start with the prequel, I decided to read first Obsidian, because in that order they were published.

Shadows is a short story of 180 pages (according to Goodreads, since I bought the ebook) that tells the story of Dawson Black, he is an alien or Luxen and he´s the twin or triplet of Daemon the main male character in the Lux series. And because I had read Obsidian before reading this book, I already knew how this story would end, but I was not emotionally prepared for that ending ..... I cried and cried .... it was a very sad ending, but the story is really beautiful.

Shadows takes place one or two years before Obsidian and the main characters are Dawson Black and Bethany Williams, they´re sixteen years old and Dawson falls in love at first sight with her and although all the Luxens are against Dawson´s relationship with a human girl, he decides to be with her and ignores all the warnings and they have a very sad ending. The romance is super sweet, cute and definitely of the Black brothers, my favorite so far is Dawson. Ohh! and Dee is hilarious in this story and I really liked the dynamic between Black triplets.

The book is told from the points of view of Dawson, Bethany and Daemon, which I loved because now I understand Daemon to some extent, the why of his negative feelings and resentment towards humans. I really liked this book.

Favorite quote:
"What?" he demanded.
"Did you just....clean a dish?" Dee backed away slowly, blinking. She glanced at Daemon. "The world is going to end. And I´m still a vir-"
"No!" both the brothers yelled in unison
Daemon looked like he was actually going to vomit. "Jesus, don´t ever finish that statement. Actually, don´t ever change that. Thank you."

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.

Obsidian is another book that I had heard a lot of buzz about it and read several reviews where they said that Daemon was awesome and so on. Well let me tell you that I really loved Obsidian, but Daemon still has to win my heart, you may wonder why? well, because is a douchebag with bipolar personality.

The book is told from Katy´s POV, she´s a 17 year old girl who loves to read and is a book blogger, she just moved to a tiny town where everyone knows everyone, there she meets her new neighbors Dee and Daemon, they are twins and while Dee treats her well and tries to befriend her, Daemon mistreated her and tries to push her away from her sister. So from there the relationship between Katy and Daemon is like a roller coaster, sometimes they get along and the next moment they don´t.

What can I say about Daemon....mmm, he is gorgeous (physically) and he knows it, he´s sexy and one of the most powerful of his kind, so he has a huge ego and his priority is his family, in this case his twin - Dee, and he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe, and if he has to be an idiot to the girl he is attracted to, then so be it. But what saves Daemon's character to be disliked (at least by me), is that he has his moments where he shows his other face to Katy, the Daemon with no pressures, no obligations, just Daemon, and at the end of the book there are three scenes from Daemon´s POV that balancing the scales of my opinion of him, but I feel that the fact of seeing everything through the eyes of Katy, is the main reason why I didn´t fall for him completely. One of my favorite characters of the story is Dee, Daemon's twin sister, she is super sweet, cheerful and what she wants more is to have a "normal" friend (non-alien) and she ends up being Katy´s best friend.

Obsidian is a good first book in a new series, is a sci-fi with a lot of action, mystery, is super fun and I can´t wait to read more about these aliens. And it has a very sexy scene, of which I had heard a lot, that is the famous laptop scene .... wow. I really loved Obsidian! I highly recommended it!

Favorites Quotes:

"You´re kind of dirty, Kitten"
I blinked. Deny. Deny. Deny. "What did you say?"
"Dirty," he repeated, voice so low I knew Dee couldn´t hear him. "You´re covered in dirt. What did you think I meant?"
“You’re such an ass. Has…anyone ever told you that?”
He flashed a genuinely amused smile. “Oh, Kitten, every single day of my blessed life.”
Smiling, he cocked his head to the side. "Kitten, what are we going to get into?"
A thousand images flashed. Thank God reading thoughts wasn´t one of his aliens powers.

There is need. And then there is Fate

Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool.

Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her.

When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude or killing her.

When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

Pure begins shortly after the events in Half-Blood, Alex goes to school, she trains with her classmates and also has extra training classes to catch up with Aiden and with Seth. Is in this scenario that daimons begin to infiltrate and attack the pures at the covenant, so they´re new rules that are applied to both pures and half-bloods, but the applied to half-bloods are a little more extreme.

And amid all this, there is the romantic drama between Aiden and Alex, she is still pining for him and Aiden is trying (not very efficiently) to stay away from her. And although I understand Aiden´s motivations and it looks like he really feels something for her, something was off with him in this book (at least for me). And in this book the spotlight is on Seth, we get to see another side of him,he still manages to remain arrogant, narcissistic, the king of the world, but we see him interact more with Alex and in his very particular way we see that he cares about her, he is very protective of her and we also see a little bit deeper the mystical connection between Alex and Seth, the way one of them can "read" or "feel" the other. In this book I really liked the character of Seth! I change my mind about him, I didn´t like him in the first book.

Another aspect that touches the book is that Alex travels to another Covenant where we see a little of the segregation of the half-bloods, the half-bloods in servitude and the punishment that they received when one of them dare to fall in love with a Pure.

Pure as a good second book in a series left me with more questions than answers and I´m intrigued by several characters and I hope that in the following books I get to know more about them and I have several theories about some of them. This book like its predecessor has action, drama and we get to see the furies, lesser gods who come to bring "order" in the covenant.

I loved it! and finally we see some gods (though minors gods) coming to cause chaos. And although there isn´t a mayor cliffhanger, I need to read Deity now.

Favorites quotes:
"You  know what?" His breath was warm against my cheek. "There are a lot of stupid things to do, but I really want to do the stupidest thing possible".
"What´s that?"
"I want to kiss you"
I opened my eyes. "Is this real?"
"Very real." He leaned back and brushed strands of wet hair off my face.
I did want to kiss him......

OPAL Book Trailer Reveal

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it.
